Functional Assessment & Intervention

Functional Assessment & Intervention

Functional Assessment is a continuous, cooperative process that combines observing, asking meaningful questions, listening to family stories, and analyzing the individual child's skills and behaviors within naturally occurring everyday routines and activities across multiple settings. This assessment helps identify the child’s unique strengths and needs. Since each individual with autism is different and has uneven functioning skills, Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) are developed based on the results of the functional assessment.

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) :

Functional Assessment (FBA) identifies the purpose of challenging behaviors by observing the individual, collecting data, and determining triggers, consequences, and underlying causes. It helps in creating effective intervention plans.

The goal is to improve the individual’s quality of life by addressing challenging behaviors and promoting positive growth.

Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) :

Developed from FBA, this plan outlines strategies to prevent challenging behaviors, teach alternative behaviors, and reinforce positive behaviors.
